How to use this calculator
Step 1 β Enter your monthly gross salary in Egyptian pounds.
Step 2 β Hit "Calculate Net Pay". The calculator subtracts the EGP 20,000 annual personal exemption and your 11% social insurance (on the EGP 2,700β16,700 insurable band), then applies the brackets β including the Law 7/2024 alternative columns if your net exceeds EGP 600,000.
Tip: if you earn above EGP 600,000/year net and your payroll still uses the standard 7-band table, you're being under-withheld β this calculator applies the correct alternative columns.
How salary deductions work in Egypt
| Annual taxable income (EGP) | Rate |
| 0 β 40,000 | 0% |
| 40,001 β 55,000 | 10% |
| 55,001 β 70,000 | 15% |
| 70,001 β 200,000 | 20% |
| 200,001 β 400,000 | 22.5% |
| 400,001 β 1,200,000 | 25% |
| Above 1,200,000 | 27.5% |
Taxable income = annual gross β EGP 20,000 exemption β 11% employee social insurance (insurable salary EGP 2,700β16,700/month). Above EGP 600,000 net income, Law 7/2024 progressively withdraws the lower brackets (alternative columns). Sources: Egyptian Tax Authority (eta.gov.eg), NOSI (nosi.gov.eg).
Worked examples
Example 1 β EGP 15,000/month (EGP 180,000/year): SI = 11% Γ 15,000 = EGP 1,650/mo (19,800/yr). Taxable = 180,000 β 20,000 β 19,800 = EGP 140,200. Tax = 1,500 + 2,250 + 20% Γ 70,200 = EGP 17,790/yr (βEGP 1,483/mo). Take-home = 15,000 β 1,650 β 1,483 = EGP 11,868/month.
Example 2 β EGP 60,000/month (EGP 720,000/year): SI = 11% Γ 16,700 (capped) = EGP 1,837/mo. Taxable = 677,956 β above EGP 600,000, so alternative columns apply: tax = 5,500 + 2,250 + 26,000 + 45,000 + 25% Γ 277,956 = EGP 148,239/yr (βEGP 12,353/mo). Take-home = 60,000 β 1,837 β 12,353 = EGP 45,810/month.
Common mistakes
1. Standard brackets above EGP 600,000. Law 7/2024 progressively withdraws the lower brackets past 600k β using the standard table understates tax for high earners.
2. Social insurance on the full salary. The 11% applies to the insurable band (EGP 2,700β16,700/month) β not your whole pay.
3. Forgetting the EGP 20,000 personal exemption. It comes off before the brackets, every year.
Deductions explained: exemption, SI, then brackets
Egypt's order: first, subtract the EGP 20,000 annual personal exemption; second, subtract your 11% social insurance (on the insurable band of EGP 2,700β16,700/month β the employer pays 18.75% on top); third, apply the seven brackets (0β27.5%) to the remainder. The twist: above EGP 600,000 of net income, Law 7/2024 withdraws the lower brackets progressively β so a EGP 700,000 earner is taxed from the 10% band upward with no 0% band at all. This is the detail that separates accurate Egyptian calculators from the rest.
