How to use this calculator
Step 1 โ Enter your monthly gross salary in KWD.
Step 2 โ Select your nationality. Kuwaiti nationals in the private/oil sector pay social insurance; expatriates pay nothing โ net equals gross.
Step 3 โ Tick private/oil sector if it applies. Contribution rates differ between government and private/oil employment.
Step 4 โ Hit "Calculate Net Pay". There is no income tax in Kuwait, so the only thing that can reduce your pay is the social insurance line.
How salary deductions work in Kuwait
Kuwait levies no personal income tax on any personal income. The Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) covers Kuwaiti and GCC nationals:
| Contribution | Employee rate |
| Pension โ on salary up to KD 2,750/month | 8% |
| Supplementary โ on salary up to KD 1,500/month | 2.5% |
| Unemployment insurance โ private/oil sector | 0.5% |
Kuwaiti dinar uses 3 decimal places (fils) โ the calculator shows all figures accordingly.
End-of-service indemnity: the รท26 rule
Article 51 of Labor Law No. 6 of 2010: 15 days' pay per year for the first 5 years, then 30 days' pay per year โ capped at 18 months' wage. The daily wage is your monthly wage รท 26 (not 30). Resignation (Article 53): nothing under 3 years, half for 3โ5 years, two-thirds for 5โ10 years, full at 10+.
Example: 6 years at KD 900/month wage, terminated: (900 รท 26) ร (15 ร 5 + 30 ร 1) = 34.62 ร 105 = KD 3,634.62. Resigned โ two-thirds = KD 2,423.08.
๐งฎ Calculate your exact indemnity โ
Basic vs. allowances: why the split matters
PIFSS uses capped salary bands (pension on salary up to KD 2,750/mo), so high earners stop paying more above the caps. But the indemnity is computed on your last total wage including regularly paid allowances โ so a bigger "basic" line still means a bigger indemnity base.
Sending money home
The dinar is the world's highest-valued currency unit โ small rate moves matter more than elsewhere. Compare total received across providers and check the live rate on our salary currency converter.
Common mistakes
1. Dividing by 30 instead of 26. Kuwait's daily wage is monthly รท 26 โ using 30 understates your indemnity by about 13%.
2. Resigning just under 3 years. Resignation before 3 years forfeits everything; one more month unlocks half the award.
3. Ignoring the 18-month cap. Beyond ~20 years of service the cap binds โ extra years add nothing.
Worked example: monthly take-home
Kuwaiti national, KD 2,000/month (private sector): pension 8% ร 2,000 = KD 160; supplementary 2.5% ร 1,500 (cap) = KD 37.50; unemployment 0.5% ร 2,000 = KD 10 โ take-home KD 1,792.50.
Expatriate, same salary: no PIFSS โ take-home KD 2,000.
