Salary Calculator Oman 2026 โ€” Net Take-Home Pay

Oman has no personal income tax in 2026โ€“2027 (a 5% tax starts 1 January 2028 on annual income above RO 42,000). Omani nationals contribute 8% to the Social Protection Fund โ€” 7.5% pension + 0.5% job security โ€” on insurable wages up to RO 3,000/month. Expatriates pay nothing โ€” net equals gross.

Estimates only โ€” not tax advice. Results are computed from official 2026 tax rules; always verify important decisions with the relevant tax authority.

How to use this calculator

Step 1 โ€” Enter your monthly gross salary in OMR.
Step 2 โ€” Select your nationality. Omani nationals pay into the social protection system; expatriates pay no income tax and no social insurance.
Step 3 โ€” Hit "Calculate Net Pay". Note: Oman introduces a 5% personal income tax from January 2028 โ€” this calculator covers the current no-tax rules, and will be updated when the new law takes effect.

How salary deductions work in Oman

Under the Social Protection Law (Royal Decree 52/2023), the Social Protection Fund (SPF) replaced the old PASI system. Employee contributions:

Job security (unemployment) branch0.5%

Coming in 2028: Royal Decree 56/2025 introduces a 5% personal income tax from 1 January 2028 on annual gross income above OMR 42,000 โ€” making Oman the first GCC state with income tax. This calculator will be updated when it takes effect.

End-of-service gratuity: the 2023 rewrite

Article 61 (Royal Decree 53/2023) created two eras: service before 31 July 2023 accrues 15 days' basic salary/year for the first 3 years and one month/year after; service from 1 August 2023 accrues one full month's basic salary per year โ€” nearly double. Capped at 24 months' basic salary; no resignation reduction.

Example: basic OMR 600, 4 years entirely after Aug 2023: 600 ร— 4 = OMR 2,400. Under the old formula it would have been just OMR 1,200.

Basic vs. allowances โ€” and the 2028 tax

Oman gratuity uses basic salary only. SPF uses a capped band (OMR 180โ€“3,000). From January 2028, a 5% income tax starts above OMR 42,000/year (Royal Decree 56/2025) โ€” the definition of taxable income will suddenly matter, and we'll update this page when regulations publish.

The rial's inverted peg (2.60 USD per OMR) makes it one of the strongest units in the world. Compare total received across providers and check the live rate on our salary currency converter.

Common mistakes

1. Using the old 15-day formula for recent service. Everything from August 2023 accrues a full month per year โ€” nearly double the old rate.
2. Assuming the 2028 tax applies now. 2026 and 2027 remain completely tax-free; the 5% starts 1 January 2028 above OMR 42,000/year.
3. Forgetting the 24-month cap on very long service.

Worked example: monthly take-home

Omani national, OMR 1,200/month: SPF = 8% ร— 1,200 = OMR 96 โ†’ take-home OMR 1,104.
Expatriate, same salary: no SPF โ†’ take-home OMR 1,200. No income tax for anyone until 2028.
