Sending money home? Read this first
The converter above shows the mid-market rate — the "real" exchange rate. What you actually receive depends on how you send:
Banks typically add a 2–4% margin plus a flat fee — convenient but expensive for large amounts.
Money-transfer apps (Wise, Remitly, and regional services) usually offer rates much closer to mid-market with a transparent fee — often the cheapest option for monthly salary transfers.
Exchange houses in the Gulf are fast for cash pickup but compare their rate against the live rate above before you commit.
Tip: a 2% better rate on a SAR 8,000 monthly transfer is worth over SAR 2,000 a year. Always compare the total received, not just the advertised fee.
We don't currently have partnerships with remittance providers — the comparison above is informational. If we add partner links in future, they'll be clearly labelled.
Common mistakes
1. Using the airport/bank board rate as "the" rate. Always compare against the live mid-market rate above.
2. Forgetting the transfer fee. A "zero fee" transfer with a bad rate usually costs more than a small fee with a good rate.
3. Converting at the wrong time for big amounts. For gratuity payouts or savings transfers, moving a large sum when your home currency is strong can be worth hundreds of dollars — the converter makes the comparison instant.
